Things to consider before choosing a solar company:

1. Which Solar Panels?
Different companies make different quality solar panels. So it pays to research these. Look for comparisons done by independent bodies.

2. What Rebates are available?
There are solar credits (REC – renewable energy certificates) and feed in tariffs. Many solar companies buy your REC’s from you and give you an upfront discount. They then sell the credits in bulk. This saves you from having to sell the credits. Feed in tariffs refer to the amount of extra energy above your personal use that you create.

3. What about warranties on the panels and inverter?
Standard warranties are around 20-25 years for solar panel energy production and 10 years for the panel and inverter manufacture.

4. Are they Clean Energy Council accredited?
The Clean Energy Council (CEC) is a peak body and solar companies can be registered with them.

5. Do they have licensed installers
The installers should be electricians that are Clean Energy Council BCSC accredited

6. How long have they been in business?
This is really about taking into consideration if you believe the company will be around for another 25 years to honor the warranty.

7. Will they help you chose the right system?
A company should ideally come to your home and help you choose a system that will be the best for you and your energy needs.
